Dark & Moist Chocolate Cake

Adding malt to this chocolate cake gives it that chocolate malt flavor!


Chocolate Cake:

  • 1  3/4 Cup of all purpose flour
  • 1 Cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 Cup Soda Fountain® Malted Milk Powder
  • 1  1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 Cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 Cup of buttermilk
  • 1/2 Cup butter (melted)
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 Cup of hot coffee (found this suggestion on a blog site!)
  • 1/2 Cup of mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

Dark Chocolate Frosting:

  • 1/2 Cup of salted buttered (softened)
  • 1  Cup Soda Fountain® Malted Milk Powder
  • 2 Cups powdered sugar
  • 3/4 Cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 Cup milk or heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract


Chocolate Cake:

  1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour 9 x 13 inch cake pan (or 2 round pans)  and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, sugar, malted milk powder, cocoa and salt.  Use mixer and add 2 eggs, buttermilk, melted butter and vanilla extract.  Beat until smooth.  Stir in hot coffee with a rubber spatula.  Then fold in mini chocolate chips.  Batter will be runny.
  3. Pour batter into the cake pan and back on middle rack for about 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  4. Allow to cool 15 minutes.

Dark Chocolate Frosting:

  1.  Beat butter with a mixer until nice and fluffy.
  2. Add malted milk powder and powdered sugar.
  3. Add cocoa powder.
  4. Pour milk or heavy whipping cream and mix until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add vanilla and mix well.

When the cake cools, frost and enjoy!
