Malty Salty Caramel Butter Bars

Do you want a scrumptiously delicious bars to make? People will definitely want the recipe!! Better give them a canister of Soda Fountain® Malted Milk Powder!

Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups salted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups Soda Fountain ® Malted Milk Powder
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

For the Filling:

  • 14 ounces soft caramel candies (about 50 individual caramels), unwrapped
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon of coarse sea salt

Instructions

To Make the Crust:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Coat a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick spray. Set aside.  Combine butter, granulated sugar, and Malted Milk Powder together on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add the vanilla and mix until combined. On low speed add in the flour and mix until it forms a soft dough.  Press 1/3 of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Wrap remaining dough in plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator.  Bake for 20 minutes, or until edges are a pale golden brown. Let cool about 15 minutes.
                      (While bottom crust is baking, start preparing the filling)

To Make the Filling:
Place unwrapped caramels in a microwave safe bowl. Add the heavy whipping cream. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Remove from microwave and stir until smooth. Additional intervals of 30 seconds can be added, as needed. Stirring after each interval until smooth.  Add vanilla to the melted caramel. Stir until combined.  Pour the caramel filling over the cooled crust.  Sprinkle sea salt on the top of the caramel layer.  Take remaining chilled dough and crumble it evenly over top of caramel filling.  Return the pan to the oven and bake until the filling is bubbly and crumbled shortbread topping is firm and lightly golden. About 25-30 minutes.  Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
